About Us
The Sons of the American Revolution is a historical, educational, and patriotic non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the memory of the men and women who secured American independence.The Gainesville Chapter SAR carries that mission forward here in North Central Florida by honoring our Revolutionary War Patriots, promoting American history, supporting patriotic education, and encouraging responsible citizenship.Our chapter’s local history reaches back to 1940, with records documenting generations of members, officers, Patriot ancestors, annual reports, chapter minutes, member files, and publications such as The Gainesville Broadside. Today, we continue the work of preserving those records while building a living legacy for future generations.We seek to maintain and extend:The institutions of American freedom

The unifying principle of e pluribus unum — out of many, oneThe Gainesville Chapter participates in patriotic ceremonies, grave markings, historical programs, youth and community outreach, America 250 activities, and efforts to preserve local chapter history. We welcome men who can document descent from a Patriot of the American Revolution, as well as those interested in genealogy, American history, and service to our community.Our goal is not only to remember history, but to keep it alive.

Our Mission
The Gainesville Chapter SAR works to keep the memory of the American Revolution alive in our local community.We honor patriot ancestors, support veterans, recognize students and young leaders, promote respect for the United States flag, and encourage a deeper understanding of America’s founding principles.Our chapter participates in patriotic observances, historical commemorations, grave markings, youth award programs, public education, and community events throughout Gainesville, Alachua County, and North Central Florida.As America approaches its 250th anniversary, we are especially committed to helping the next generation understand that liberty is not automatic. It must be remembered, taught, preserved, and practiced.

We meet the third Wednesday of each month at

Alachua, FL 32615Meeting Time: 5:30 PMThe Gainesville Chapter meets on the third Wednesday of each month from January through May and September through December.The chapter does not meet during the summer months of June, July, and August.Guests and prospective members are welcome. Please contact us before attending to confirm the meeting date and program.

Membership
To join the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), a male of any age (including minors via junior membership) must prove lineal descent from an ancestor who supported the American Independence cause between April 19, 1775, and Nov. 25, 1783. Applicants must contact a local SAR chapter for sponsorship, complete the application, and submit documentation (birth/death/marriage records) for each generation.
